How do you light a gas fireplace "without electricity"?

The pilot is on, but it is usually turned on with an on/off switch. Is there a safe way to turn it on during a power outage.

Answer:
More than likely the fireplace you have is one that has a millivolt circuit that operates the gas valve to turn the main burner on once the pilot is lit. When i say a millivolt circuit, that is an electrical current that is generated by the pilot burner itself by heating a themopile that is number of bimetal strips that are joined together at one end & when heated produces an electrical current that is less than one volt but is enough current to operate the gas valve on your fireplace, It usually do not require household current only to operate the blower if so equipped
