How do I fill in a fireplace after the back boiler has been removed.?
I have had a combi boiler installed but the plumber would not remove the old back boiler.
He advised me to remove it myself as he had decommissioned it completely.
The reason I want to fill in the gap is, I want to fix an electric fire to the wall.
In answer to DIY DOC, it is a house brick wall in the UK.
This is called a chimney breast here.
The Combi boiler is installed in the utility room which is nowhere near the fireplace.

I guess some questions I'd ask you might be; what is the substance of the walls surrounding the fireplace opening. I'm also assuming; since I see so many questions about COMBI boilers; that you aren't in the states? Why might anyone have installed new in front of old? Does the new one protrude into the room? Can you block up the opening? Brick up the opening? drywall over? What exactly is your definition of fill in? Is the new one in fact installed in a NON functional "fireplace"?
